Ballet, Hip Hop and which - tap or jazz?

My daughter (10 years old) took ballet and tap combo classes for 4 years when she was younger, then took two years off from dance for other activities. She's going back to a new studio this year and really wants to take Hip Hop, and I told her she must take ballet if she's going to dance at all. That leaves the third class - would you recommend tap or jazz? Right now it's a hobby, but she has expressed some interest in competition or school dance team in the future.

She's torn, I could go either way, the dance director said either is fine, but we just want to decide!

Personally I would do tap because that's my best but if she's interseted in a team she would be more likely to take jazz. Jazz is a wider selection in things to do then tap is. If she's torn I would say do jazz becuase most girls by their teens drop tap becauses if you don't get it or not into it it's not much fun so they will stop. Jazz is a bigger area in doing things. She will find that jazz is more popular then tap. Then in competitions jazz is better understood then tap is. Trust me doing tap solos/duos and groups is harder then in jazz.

So I (a girl a few years older) would recomend jazz.

Good Luck in your search

Jazz is much more eclectic and would also be more entertaining and fun for her.
first i have to say as a dance instructor at a hip hop studio, that we don't offer ballet at all because most kids are not interested in it. i myself have taken ballet (as an adult) and enjoyed it. but right now ballet and classical styles aren't as popular as hip hop, tap and STEP. Jazz is still exciting to watch (at least from a younger person's point of view).

unless ballet is a requirement for her to take the hip hop, you might let her take jazz, tap and hip hop.
jazz
if she wants to be on a school dance team later, she should do jazz. thats what most of them do.
I would say tap, since jazz and hip hop are similar.
hip hop and jazz are similar, but if she plans on doing something with dance other than show or rhythm type of dancing, then doubling up on similar types is best. There is some difference though, like hip hop is very energetic, and jazz can be used on broadway and in school.

tap is fun , but requires that she likes beat or drumming, etc

and jazz is very light- hearted and energetic and involves more of the body than tap
I would do tap... i love it... but that's just my opinion
