my name is cassandra, and I have been doing ballet for ten years, and am on pointe. I think its a great idea for guys to take ballet. Ballet is a great way to gain balance, flexibility, strength, and confidence. Guys usually wear just shorts and a close tee or a shorted leotard; it depends on what teacher you have. Ballet is also very good for strength if you are interested in modern dance, gymnastics, and even football. I don't see why other guys think its dumb because it takes a lot of strength to do ballet, more strength than most sports. I think its a great idea.

There is nothing wrong w/ dat. If you don't feel uncomfortable wearing leotards and tights (considering that you are a guy), then go for it. It will be a beutiful experience. =)
This is the 21st century, much more is accepted nowadays then ever before. Men dancing in classical ballet has ALWAYS been accepted way before women were ever allowed on stage. In today's pop culture a man is always more respected if they can dance. Just pop in a few of your dancer movies and see how the director has portrayed so well the desire of a street juvenile to join the world of classical dance. Some titles to motivated yourself to try a class out are, "Step Up" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462590/ and "Center Stage" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0210616/

In other words, just do it! It'll be fun and very challenging! Don't worry about what to wear, just google a dance studio, call them up and let them know it'll be your first time. They may be leniant and allow you to wear sweatpants and a t-shirt. Any studio I guarantee you will be accomodating to acquiring a potential male dancer for their studio. You already have a welcome sign just for you anywhere you choose to go. So good luck and most importantly just have fun!
It's a great idea. :)

Ballet is really fun, you get to do a lot of jumps. :)

It's great for muscle building. :)

Flexibility, and strength. :)

To find a Ballet school go somewhere that's actually good. :)

You Should check out your local telephone book. :)

Flip to the D section, until you find Dance. :)

Then visit their websites most of the information on tuition and cirriculum is there. :)

Happy Dancing!!! :)
No offense but i think its gay... Hopefully not a lot of ppl agree wit me (even when girls do ballet...I totally hate it)

P.S. NOTICE how only GIRLS are replying to this. See what I mean?
i do ballet (but i'm a girl LOL) anyway, dont let the fear of being made fun of or whatever discourage you. many people agree that ballet is up there with football in terms of intensity. If you start taking a ballet class, no one at the ballet center will think you're weird. at my school we wish there were more boys! also, just FYI, guys wear a thing called a dance belt under their tights. its actually a thong. but PLEASE dont let that turn you off! ballet is super fun. i just wanted to let you know that so it doesnt come as a huge awkward surprise like if the teacher or dancewear store salesperson tells you. :) if you want to do ballet, JUST DO IT!!!!! good luck! :D
i am a dancer too and i say you do it i have guy friends who dance and ballet really helps you! like strong legs nice abs lol it is really helpful a say do it just for the fun of it who knows you might make other guys want to do it too
You're a man, not a boy, and as such, you make your own decisions, chriss. In your case, however, I don't really think you've got the drive and determination to pursue ballet training, given that you are more pre-occupied about what you'd wear and what your mom thinks. These are warning bells to me. Someone who is really interested in BALLET would tend to ask about the difficulty, how many hours is required, how quickly they could expect to get fairly good at the movement, etc. As an adult, I think you're capable of calling up ballet studios and asking about dress code policies and such, yourself.
hey all girls love it when there a guy taking ballet class that isnt 10 years old, and cant do one push up let alone partner a girl! Go for it, it will be an experience if nothing less. Most studios have a dress code, but that can be a little different for grown men vs. little boys, if you dont feel comfortable wearing what is recomended dont be afraid to speak up, the studio will be glad to have you and wont want you to leave because of your discomfort.

I saw a funny video on youtube that will definately make you feel better about taking ballet classes!
