Ballet Teachers?

I'm 16 and my instructor is having me teach the 4-6 year old ballet class. I'm not sure what ballet activities and exercises to do with them. Any ideas?

Is it a permanent or temporary job? Have the students taken dance before?

You could do elementary plies and tendus with them, have them twirl or skip around the room, stretch creatively with them (i.e. doing the butterfly stretch and asking each student what color her magical butterfly is, or putting all your feet together in a circle when you are in straddle stretches and making a pretend pizza). If you want to get even more creative, you could show them a video clip of some ballet variation, and then have them try to dance like that magical princess they just saw dancing. It really depends on if you're just subbing one time, or if you will teach all the classes.

I help younger kids alot. Do a lot of work on the barre, plies, tendues, have them do releves. And like as you call out the step and are demonstrating ask them if they can pronounce the word. then when they do center floor teach them arabesques but with their foot on the floor.Have them do first, second, fourth, and fifth on barre and then off the barre for placement of the arms. Everything you learn but easier.
yea i have to teach little kids also i teach them like doing little stuff at the bar like cleas and teaching them su-sus and relevaes nutin to hard but just stuff you had to do in beginner ballet that kida stuff if you want me to i can e-mali you a list of stuff i have them do!!
When the kids are young, the main idea is not to stress technique but more to have fun and keep them entertained. Young kids have short attention spans, so you have to maintain their attention. I would start by introducing the different positions to them, and after they learn them maybe make a game out if, like simon says but calling out different positions. I would have them do jumps in first and second because kids love to bounce around. If their good enough, you can even break down chane turns (without arms of course, have them keep their hands on their waist or shoulders) step by step and teach them spotting. I would teach them plie and releve and have them walk across the floor on releve. I would also teach them chasse and tendu. You can even teach them the concept of leaps by making them leap over a toy(of course this would be one of the moves where you really cant stress technique too much, just let them get the feel of it) Once a month I would have a special time where the kids can make up their own dances and steps or just freestyle dance to fun music, to encourage imagination. Some teachers like to give steps different names that kids can relate to and understand better, but I wouldn't advise that, I would call everything by its real terminology, so if they continue dancing when they are older it won't confuse them. Hope I helpedddd =] If you need any more ideas lmk!
